Anthropic Appoints Irina Ghose to Lead India Expansion 

Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose, former managing director of Microsoft India, to lead its India operations as the company plans to expand its presence in the country. 

Ghose has been named Managing Director of India and will oversee Anthropic’s planned Bengaluru expansion, including the setup of its first office in India, expected to open in early 2026. 

Irina Ghose spent nearly 24 years at Microsoft, holding multiple senior leadership roles. She most recently served as Managing Director of Microsoft India, managing enterprise business across sectors such as banking, healthcare, manufacturing technology and government. 

Anthropic said her experience in scaling enterprise technology adoption in India will support the company’s growth plans in the region. 

The Bengaluru office will focus on business development partnerships and customer engagement. Anthropic aims to strengthen relationships with Indian enterprises startups and developers using its AI model, Claude. 

Industry reports indicate that India is Anthropic’s second -largest market globally in terms of user activity, particularly for software development and coding use cases. 

The appointment highlights Anthropic’s intent to expand its footprint in India as competition among global AI companies intensifies. The firm backed by Google and Amazon is expanding internationally to meet rising demand for AI tools. 

Anthropic has not disclosed hiring plans or investment details for its India operations at this stage. 

With the leadership appointment in place, the company is expected to move ahead with its Bengaluru office and begin launching and scaling local operations over the coming months.
