Amazon Brings Alexa Plus to the Web with Advanced AI Features

Amazon has taken a major step in artificial intelligence by launching the web version of its upgraded voice assistant Alexa Plus. The announcement was made at CES 2026 in Las Vegas and allows users to access Alexa’s AI features directly through a web browser.

Until now Alexa and its generative AI powered version were mainly available through smart speakers such as Echo devices or mobile apps. With this move Amazon is expanding Alexa’s reach beyond voice only devices.

The new Alexa Plus is powered by advanced artificial intelligence that makes conversations more natural and intelligent. It can remember context from earlier interactions and respond to more complex questions compared with older versions of Alexa.

The web version of Alexa Plus allows users to perform a wide range of tasks. These include asking questions and receiving detailed answers managing daily tasks such as to do lists and calendars controlling smart home devices planning and organizing activities and understanding files like emails, images and documents.

Users can also upload documents, emails, or images and ask Alexa to extract useful information. For example, a user can upload a recipe and have Alexa create a shopping list from it.

Unlike the earlier version of Alexa that mainly handles simple commands, Alexa Plus is designed to take real world action. A user can upload a recipe to ask Alexa to prepare a shopping list and then set a reminder to buy groceries.

At present, the web version of Alexa Plus is available only to Early Access users through selected Amazon accounts. Amazon has not yet shared a timeline for when it will be opened to the general public.

This launch highlights a larger shift in how people interact with artificial intelligence. Voice assistants have seen reduced usage as many users now prefer browser-based AI tools for daily tasks.

By bringing Alexa Plus to the web Amazon is positioning itself to compete more directly with AI platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini while working to keep Alexa relevant in the rapidly evolving AI space.
